Healthy Coffee

Java for Life

Every once in a while, the conscious coffee drinker will run across some article which makes them question whether or not coffee is good for them. Coffee has gotten a bad rap over the years as being not healthy, and often people are urged to switch to green tea instead. Put all of that out of your mind. Java is for life!
Coffee has always had antioxidants, those little scavengers that rid the body of toxic free radicals, but all too often, with ordinary coffee, the chemicals used for growing and processing overshadowed any potential health benefits.

The truth is that making the switch to an organic coffee gets rid of the downsides – those chemicals that can make you sick, leech calcium from your bones, make your stomach hurt or make an acid stomach worse are simply not there when drinking certified organic coffee. Buying organic coffee for your home only costs between thirty and forty cents a cup – just pennies more than you’re paying for ordinary coffee.
Now, even better, organic and fair-trade coffee has gone a step further, producing a super-antioxidant coffee which ramps up the health factor considerably. The great thing is super-antioxidants are not additives to the coffee, they are produced by roasting at a specifically higher temperature. Previously, it was believed that roasting at higher temperatures destroyed the antioxidants, but researchers discovered that when lower level antioxidants were destroyed, they were replaced with super-antioxidants that had even more free-radical scavenging potential.

Getting rid of built up free-radicals can make you more alert, make your heart healthier, prevent certain cancers, and just make you way healthier overall.

“Great!” you might say, “does that mean I don’t have to eat so many veggies?” Well, not really. Super-antioxidant coffee is a bonus, like the icing on the cake. Because we live in such toxic environments and eat things we really shouldn’t, we have lots of free-radicals floating around in our bodies, so we need as many scavengers as we can get. You can’t cut down on veggies because veggies are about a lot more than just antioxidants.

But it does mean you can cut out things like juice. Unfortunately, in the same way that coffee has gotten a bad rap over the years, juice has been falsely promoted as super healthy when it’s just not. Eating whole fruit is always better than drinking juice because the sugars are so concentrated in juices, and the fruit also has fiber which you body badly needs. The two cups of java you had with breakfast even has more fiber than juice.

Juice causes a huge insulin flood. That’s why they give it to diabetics when their blood sugar dips dangerously. But constantly flooding a healthy body with insulin just causes the pancreas to get tired and one becomes insulin resistant which can be a precursor to Type 2 Diabetes.

New studies have shown that people who drink six or seven cups of coffee a day have a 35% less chance of contracting Type 2 Diabetes no matter what their weight. Drinking four to five cups a day decreases your chance by 28%.

So just take a minute and look up what antioxidants can do for you. Keep eating your fruits and veggies, and don’t hesitate to take supplements if you think you need more, but don’t forget that drinking coffee, especially switching to super-antioxidant coffee will put you far ahead of the game. Java helps you win in the game of life.
